Comments from long running campaigns

The comments below come from people who have played in extended campaigns with me, usually involving four or more sessions.

Fred is the kind of Game Master who makes you excited for game night days in advance. His energy sets the tone, his NPCs are unforgettable, and his commitment to making every session special shines through in everything he does—right down to the impromptu dances and songs that always catch us off guard (in the best way).

There’s never a dull moment with Fred. He has a great knack for creating memories.  Every time we gather for a session, we know we’re in for at least one moment we’ll be quoting, laughing about, or reminiscing over for weeks.– Doug (Night’s Black Agents, Mothership)

Fred is an exceptional game master, skilled at both creating interesting situations for PCs as well as having the ability to create new situations on the fly if the party decides to do something not in the preplanned adventure. His best ability is to create memorable characters with distinct voices and personality, usually people who are getting in the PCs way, which will lead to stories 6-10 years down the line about how hilariously they got in the party’s way. The encounters are usually well balanced in terms of difficulty and at the end of a session there will always be something interesting to remember. — Eric (Almost everything on my Games page)

I’ve known Fred as friend and game master for 20 years, and every campaign has been fun and noteworthy. He is eager to try different systems and does not insist that we (his regular core group of players) always play in his favorite system. Indeed, Fred’s “favorite system” is sometimes the one he’s learning and presenting. When Fred starts telling me he’s got a new RPG setting he’d like to run, my answer is “yes” before he finishes the sentence. Every time. — Dale (Almost everything on my Games page)

I highly recommend participating in a campaign with Fred. The time between my last role play session and my first with Fred had been nearly 25 years. As a newly returning player, I worried if my inexperience would take away from the event and story. My worries were quickly eased. Fred answered any questions I had and explained the rules in an easily understandable way. Even if I had my character do something that might not have been “normal” he folded it seamlessly into the story. I am now in my second campaign with him moderating, and I’m having another great time. He has a way to make his characters feel memorable and believable (within the world they inhabit). Sign up and have some fun. You won’t be disappointed. — Clint (Night’s Black Agents, Mothership)

Comments from convention games

Games I run at conventions are one shots / single session stories, and most often the players are not familiar with the game system being used. In the course of a three hour session, I teach them the game and run them through a representative story from the setting.

A very well run game, great back and forth with players. — Eat the Reich Player

Awesome story commentary by the DM! — Eat the Reich Player

Fred runs a fun campaign and helps unfamiliar games make sense. — Night’s Black Agents Player

High drama, excellent suspense and intrigue with a heavy grindhouse feel. Great job of making us feel competent as spies and then ripping it away as the vampires showed up and we realized just how out of our depth we were. — Night’s Black Agents Player

Awesome physicality that really puts you in the middle of the action! — Night’s Black Agents, Jessa

Very entertaining session with action and intrigue. Well researched. (Fred note: this last was in reference to the adventure which I had written set in modern day Eastern Europe) — Night’s Black Agents, Isaiah

Great evocative storytelling. Wonderfully detailed adventure in a less commonly explored area. — Night’s Black Agents Player

Great bloody combat narration! — Eat the Reich Player

Played “Night’s Black Agents”. Thought of a way to get the get the girl back (Fred note: the mission objective was to rescue a kidnapped young woman) that Fred didn’t think of. (Fred note: this player was *very* creative and thought outside the box. She devised a sensible and clever plan that would have derailed the adventure, forcing me to improvise and alter the story on the fly to keep things going. This doesn’t happen to me very often, so kudos to you, Leyla!)((Fred Note on the Fred Note: I did manage to keep the adventure moving forward, but afterwards I told Leyla what she had done because I think that level of clever deserves recognition.)) — Night’s Black Agents, Leyla

Fred is a vivid story teller. He does a great job involving everyone. — Night’s Black Agents Player

Great story, the gameplay was fun. — Eat the Reich Player

He has an excellent way of weaving narrative and guidance together. — Night’s Black Agents Player
